The Borla Taxi Tricycle Association on Wednesday 17 April, 2024 inaugurated a cooperative in the Adentan Municipal Assembly to help stakeholders in the non-formal sector collect solid waste properly within the various communities.
Present at the inauguration is the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ebenezer Doku, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Madam Racheal Fosua Sarpong, Ing. Harriet Osei-Tutu, solid waste specialist and Rep from GARID and Ministry of Sanitation, Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Andrew Nii Apai Aborhey and the National President of BTTA, Madam Lydia Bamful.
The MCE in his welcome address stated that BTTA has been accepted by the Sanitation Ministry and ADMA to bridge the gap between waste collectors and the Assemblies for progress in the management of solid waste. He added “Borla Taxi has been so necessary in managing solid waste in our communities with the help of GARID. ADMA is always winning awards; all this is possible with the help of BTTA.”
Additionally, the GARID project officer, Ing. Henrietta Osei-Tutu from the Sanitation Ministry said, their focus was only on the formal sector “but when we did, we saw a big difference and the sustainability is key.” From today we need to see the difference, with all needed PPE’s given to your organization. She added, the PPE’s must be taken seriously to prevent you from various diseases from the collection of solid waste.
She explained that, the Creation of Engineered Landfill and Transfer station for the North-Eastern side of Greater Accra to help clear waste and dump fust and close.
Madam Lydia Bamful, the National President of the Borla Taxi and Tricycle Asocial said “today is a great day for us, ADMA has always involved us in their works concerning solid waste.” She advised the members of BTTA to always carry all solid waste to its final landfill sites and not distribute the waste on the way, this she said would go a long way to help make our communities with ADMA clean always.
She thanked GARID for always being there for BTTA and that they still need ADMA to give them more help when task force arrests the bad nuts among them. “This our work would go a long way to create more jobs for the unemployed youths in our communities.”
The MCE presented the BTTA with Certificate of Registration from the Register General’s Department and Bye-Laws of the Assembly as a Working Document for the BORLA TAXI Operations. A set of the PPEs was presented to the BTTA.
The MCE in his closing remarks thanked all the Reps from GARID and Ministry of Sanitation for their help and said ADMA will continue to partner all stakeholders in the sanitation industry to make ADMA the best.
