The rapid increase in student enrollment in schools within the Adentan municipality without a corresponding increase in classrooms, furniture and logistics for teaching and learning is becoming worrying situation for pupils and teachers in the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Hon. D.A Nii Noi Adumuah who brought this to light at the assembly’s 1st Ordinary meeting for 2021, cited the Adentan Community, Adjiringanor, Christ Faith, Amrahia Basic and Ogbojo Presbyterian Basic schools as some of the schools having challenges with class room space within his municipality.
He underscored the need for the assembly to plan towards providing extra classroom blocks for the schools in question, adding that the assembly would procure more furniture for the schools as a matter of priority.
“As you may be aware, the first and second floors of the AdMA New Legon School has been completed and handed over to the education directorate. I am told it has already had an enrollment of eight hundred and sixty-four (864). Ninety-two (92) for kindergarten, five-hundred and eighty-seven for basic schools and one hndred and eighty-five (185) for JSS. This tells us how critical that school structure was needed and the good decision we took to provide it,” reported the MCE, Alexander Adumuah.
In an effort to address the challenges emanating from the school enrollment upsurge, the MCE, said some furniture had already been procured from DACF and sent to the New Legon School. He added that the school management team in collaboration with the head teachers and PTA of the schools would find ways of ensuring that the furniture that were supplied to the schools were maintained.
Hon. Alexander Adumuah said his outfit was working at addressing the issues of classroom space, furniture and other logistics to enhance teaching and learning in the Adentan constituency.
