As part of nationwide reforms and an attempt to expand the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty( LEAP) Programme, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon.Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has met with beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme in the Adentan Municipality under the new payment system at the Conference Hall of the Assembly.
The event brought together 56 LEAP beneficiaries from communities including Adenta, Amrahia, Ashiyie and Danfa.Also present were officials from the social welfare department.
The programme was organised to conduct biometric validation and reassessment of the 56 LEAP beneficiaries in the municipality to sensitize them on the new ATM card payment system, issue LEAP E-cards for grant withdrawals, and effect payment of the first and second cycles for 2026 as a double payment under the new revised grant structure.
The LEAP Programme is a Government of Ghana social protection intervention implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection. The programme provides bi-monthly cash transfers to extremely poor and vulnerable households, with the objective of reducing poverty and promoting human capital development.
The programme also highlighted the Ministry’s plans to support beneficiaries in improving their livelihoods and achieving greater household sustainability.
Under the current six-tier grant structure, beneficiaries receive bi-monthly payments ranging from GH₵380 to GH₵630, depending on household size and vulnerability status. The grant, which is paid six times a year and is subject to review.
In her welcome address,the Chief Executive for the Adentan Municipal Assembly Hon. Ella Christine Esinam Nongo highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the LEAP Programme in the municipality to ensure that more vulnerable households benefit from the intervention.
Other dignitaries present were Mr. Myles Tibanye Ongoh, Head of LEAP, Mr. Seth Anim Boadi, Municipal Coordinating Director, Dr. William Oppong, a representative of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and Mr. Divine Exorgbe, Head of the Social Welfare Department, Adentan Municipal Assembly.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, acknowledging that the LEAP grant contributes to improving their livelihoods and meeting their household needs.
