The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Hon. Ella Esinam Christine Nongo, on Tuesday , June 9, 2026 once again led a team of engineers, planners, officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Personnel from Ghana Police Service to the damaged bridge near New Legon International School as efforts to restore access to the community intensify.
Following her initial inspection earlier on Monday, June 8, the Assembly has moved swiftly into action by deploying an excavator to the site to undertake emergency drainage works.
The exercise is aimed at creating a wider channel to allow accumulated floodwaters to flow further downstream, thereby reducing water pressure around the affected area and creating suitable conditions for the reconstruction of the bridge.
The bridge, which serves as the only access route connecting sections of the New Legon community, was severely damaged by last week’s heavy rains that caused flooding across several parts of Accra, leaving residents stranded and disrupting daily activities.
During the follow-up visit, Hon. Ella assured residents that the Assembly remains committed to finding both immediate and long-term solutions to restore movement and ensure the safety of community members.
She noted that the drainage intervention forms part of preparatory works towards the construction of a more durable bridge structure.
Residents expressed appreciation for the swift response of the Assembly and the visible progress being made on site.
The Adentan Municipal Assembly continues to monitor flood-affected areas across the municipality and remains dedicated to restoring damaged infrastructure and improving resilience against future flooding incidents.
