Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) in collaboration with Regional Security Council (RESEC) carried a demolition exercise at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, the Animal Research Institute (CSIR-ARI) in Adentan Fafraha, on 21st June, 2022.
The exercise was carried out after a 48-hour ultimatum, issued by the Greater Accra Regional Minister (RM) Hon. Henry Quartey. Over 100 houses were demolished aimed at reclaiming all lands encroached on by land guards within the perimeter of CSIR-ARI. The exercise was coordinated with heavy security presence and supervised by the Hon. Henry Quartey and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Daniel alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah.
The regional minister in a press briefing stated that, a land size of 1,330 acres was allocated to CSIR-ARI to carry out research on animals. Within a space of 10 to 20 years, about 900 acres has been encroached on. He also stated that, government compensated initial owners of the land before allocating it to CSIR-ARI. He further assured the public that, lands retrieved from encroachers will be used by CSIR-ARI for their operational purpose and will not be given to government official per rumors going round. However, they will lobby with the Minister for lands and Natural Resource for a possible agreement with CSIR-ARI, to regulate the 900 acres covered by over 4000 houses outside the CSIR-ARI perimeter. He urged landlords’ association to avail themselves for the process.
