The Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) has kick-started the first session of the YouStart programme, a government initiative aimed at reducing unemployment by assisting the youth in starting their own businesses. The programme, which commenced on Monday, 8th May, 2023, at the Resurrection Methodist Church, Adentan Housing Down, will span five days, and 35 youths in the Adentan Municipality were selected to participate.

The Minister for Trade and Industry, Honorable K.T. Hammond, who spoke at the event, described the YouStart programme as a platform to help the youth who desire to own businesses to achieve their dreams. According to him, the government is committed to reducing the rate of unemployment in the country and is embarking on various initiatives to achieve this.

In her address, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), Mrs. Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, urged the selected youths to pay attention to the training, as it is a great opportunity for them to create their own businesses and secure a better future. She stressed that the government can only provide assistance, but the onus is on the participants to utilize the knowledge gained from the programme to improve their businesses.

Honorable Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, the Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, also encouraged the selected youths to be fully committed to the training and take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions that will be beneficial to them. He emphasized that the programme would help participants become better businesspersons.

The first session of the YouStart programme will cover topics such as Networking, Business management, Business planning, branding, and international business. The aim of the training is to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to start and manage their own businesses successfully.

The YouStart programme is a commendable initiative by the government to tackle unemployment and empower the youth to become entrepreneurs. It is hoped that the selected participants will take advantage of the training and utilize the knowledge gained to create successful and sustainable businesses that will contribute to the country’s economic growth.
