As part of activities to make greater Accra work, the Regional Coordinating Council in collaboration with Adentan Municipal Assembly took an initiative to sensitize and educate people living in the Municipality on Operation Clean Your Frontage (OCYF). The program which began on 1st February 2022 started at 8:00 am at the various Zonal Councils.

The objective of this exercise is to get residents, shop owners, corporate bodies, and vendors to own and clean their surroundings before embarking on their day-to-day activities.

The exercise was led by the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit alongside. Municipal Coordinator Mrs. Jemima Tsina Apedo, Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of Department, Staff, City Guards, and the security to ensure efficiency.

The exercise began with the sharing of fliers that had details of “Operation Clean Your Frontage” (OPCY) and the bye-laws on environmental health and sanitation. The teams moved into the communities and educated residents on the need to be responsible for their surroundings.

The exercise included distillation of gutters, sweeping, picking of rubbish, and clearing weeds. In the course of the exercise vendors and households were made to understand that the exercise is not for the week but instead it has come to stay.

Residents who do not comply with the directive to clean their surroundings will be liable to a conviction of a fine of one hundred penalty units or a term of imprisonment of not less than six months.
