Hon. Eric Tony Blair, Assembly Member for the New Legon Electoral Area and Chairman of the Gbentaana Zonal Council in the Adentan Municipality, has urged Unit Committee members to refrain from engaging in partisan politics at the Zonal Councils.

Hon Blair emphasized this point while leading a session on the Responsibilities and Functions of Unit Committee Members during a two-day capacity-building workshop for Unit Committee members across the Municipality.

He highlighted that, although the Unit Committee positions are non-partisan, individuals holding these roles often belong to various political parties. Regardless of their political affiliations, members should prioritize serving the best interests of their community, as partisan politics can be detrimental to the functioning of the Assembly and Zonal Councils.

“Do away with partisan politics. As a Unit Committee Member, you can do politics but don’t engage in partisan politics at the Zonal councils. Don’t get me wrong. There is a difference between doing politics and doing partisan politics”, Tony stated.

The Adentan Municipal Assembly successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day training session for all Unit Committee members within the Municipality, aiming to enhance their capacity for effectively executing their responsibilities.

Held at the Assembly Hall on Tuesday, 28th, and Wednesday, 29th May 2024, the training was organized under the auspices of the Human Resource Unit of the Assembly.

The training was facilitated by Hon. Eric Tony Blair, who has served three terms as the Assembly Member for New Legon Electoral Area, and Hon. Ella Esinam Christine Nongo, a two-term Assembly member for the Gbentaana Electoral Area. Both facilitators were exceptionally knowledgeable about the topics discussed and delivered comprehensive insights.

Key topics covered during the training included the Responsibilities and Functions of Unit Committee members, the roles of major stakeholders within the Assembly, Delegation of Responsibilities, Community Engagement, the Proceedings of Assembly Meetings, and the Utilization of Social Media.

During the training, the Unit Committee Members were divided into working groups and tasked with addressing nine common challenges faced by the Zonal councils. Each group was assigned three challenges and successfully proposed innovative solutions to these issues.

The training saw the attendance of notable figures, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ebenezer Doku, Municipal Coordinating Director, Ms. Rachel Fosua Sarpong, Presiding Member, Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey (who also serves as the Assembly Member for Otanor Electoral Area), all Assembly Members, Senior Human Resource Manager Ms. Patience Esinam Lessey, and the Directors of the Zonal councils.

Participants expressed their satisfaction with the training, noting that it significantly enlightened them on various aspects of their duties. They conveyed their gratitude to the organizers, particularly the Hon MCE, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Human Resource Unit, and the facilitators for this invaluable capacity-building program.

The Unit Committee members committed to applying the knowledge and skills gained from the training to their work, ensuring maximum impact and improved performance.
