The Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA), has inaugurated a newly built maternity ward for the people of Fafraha in the Adentan municipality.

The assembly’s aim is to bring quality health care to the doorsteps of its constituents while ensuring the improvement of maternal health care.

The newly built facility consists of a dispensary, procedure room, a visitors’ washroom, water tank, septic tank facility, consulting room, vitals and records room, labour ward, waiting area, nurses station and many more.

MCE of Adentan Hon. Alexander Daniel Nii Noi Adumuah in his inaugural address indicated that, Fafraha had been the beneficiary of a lot of infrastructural projects within the Adentan Municipality citing, a school, health facility as well as a court among others as examples adding that: “Now we have a new maternal facility that is intended to do something that usually doesn’t happen in the Adentan constituency”

He admonished the nurses of the Fafraha health centre to advertise the newly built maternity facility to people living within the community and beyond to ensure greater patronage.

“Pregnancy rate is high in Fafraha, but anybody who gets pregnant decides to go outside this district to give birth. There are people living within this catchment area who would rather go to korle-bu, La-Nkwantanang or see a specialist somewhere else etc.”

In her welcome address at the inauguration ceremony, on Thursday, March 10, 2022, the Physician assistant (PA) in charge of the maternity block, Madam Justina Issaka indicated that the facility boast of a staff strength of 55 nurses, 24 other staff and 3 Physician assistants (PA) and is the only public facility in the Gbentaana sub-municipal, serving a population of 71,253.

According to her, “our patients are overwhelming us and so we are excited that this new facility is going to help us to do more because every day the population keeps increasing”.

Madam Justine, Physician assistant (PA) of the maternity ward pledged her outfit’s commitment to ensure that the newly inaugurated maternity facility served its purpose not only to the people of Fafraha health centre but also to the surrounding communities.

The MCE entreated the nurses to live up to the ethics of the nursing profession to enable them discharge their maternal health care services flawlessly.

“With the coming in of the new maternity facility the numbers would appreciate and patients who come to you to seek health care would take good report about you to the other people on the other side. That good report would also be a marketing tool that would make other people realize that the workers here are exceptional.”

A representative who spoke on behalf of the Queen Mother of Fafraha, Naa Atwei Osantro also affirmed that Fafraha community was one of the luckiest as far as infrastructural development in the Adentan municipality was concerned and was grateful to the municipal assembly for putting up such beautiful facility.

The Fafraha old maternity block was established in 2014 and renders health care  services such as; Reproductive and Child Health (RCH), eye care, antenatal, maternal delivery, lab services and many more.

Madam Justine Issaka in her closing remarks thanked the MCE and members of AdMA for working tirelessly to bring the facility to reality.
