The Gbentana Zonal Council of the Adenta Municipal Assembly has organized a massive community clean-up exercise at Adenta New Legon and RosaRosa.

It was under the theme “Clean Environment, Healthy People, Safe Community”.

The exercise which commenced at 6:00 a.m. brought together over fifty participants, including Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, youth groups, women’s groups, personnel from Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., shop owners, and market women.

Some activities undertaken during the exercise included
sweeping of streets, marketplaces, and gutters, desilting of choked gutters in Adenta New Legon, RosaRosa, and surrounding housing areas, weeding of bushy areas that served as breeding grounds for mosquitoes,
collection and proper disposal of plastic waste and refuse.

Others included clearing of refuse dumps behind the lorry station in addition to
education and sensitisation of residents.

Residents were also educated on the importance of maintaining clean surroundings to prevent accidents and the outbreak of diseases such as cholera and malaria.

Shop owners were advised to protect their properties and remain vigilant against theft.

Youth were encouraged to wear protective gloves, boots, and nose masks during clean-up exercises.

Children were cautioned to stay away from open gutters and refuse dumps while emphasis was also placed on regular handwashing, proper waste disposal, covering of dustbins, avoidance of stagnant water, and the importance of consuming clean food and water while engaging in regular exercise.

It was recommend that clean-ups continue at least once every month, more dustbins are provided at key points in Adenta, sanctions are applied for indiscriminate dumping, continuous education should be carried out through information centres and churches.
