ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY DONATES ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES TO CHIEFS AHEAD OF HOMOWO FESTIVAL

The Adentan Municipal Assembly on August 22, 2025, presented a generous package of goods and financial support to the traditional authorities in preparation for this year’s Homowo Festival.

The donation included:

Bottled water
Palm oil
Soft drinks
Bags of corn
Boxes of schnapps
A monetary contribution to aid festival arrangements

At a brief ceremony, Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Christine Ella Esinam Nongo, joined by Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Seth Anim Boadi, reiterated the festival’s importance as a cornerstone of Adentan’s cultural identity. “Homowo unites our community, strengthens peace, and drives development,” the MCE said, highlighting the Assembly’s dedication to partnering with traditional leaders to preserve heritage and foster growth.

On behalf of the chiefs, Nii Adjei Dorblo expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely support, noting that the Assembly’s contribution would significantly boost preparations and ensure a successful celebration.

MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE ENGAGES WITH ADENTAN STATION TRADERS.

On 14^th August 2024, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Doku, accompanied by some Heads of the Departments from the Assembly, held a meeting with traders from the Adentan Station at the Assembly’s Conference Room to engage in discussions and address certain concerns.

Addressing the traders, the Hon. MCE announced that the Adentan Station is set to undergo a phase-lift. He explained that all shops surrounding the taxi rank will be re-positioned away from the taxi rank just to create enough space for the phase-lift.

The Hon. MCE reassured the traders that the renovation will not disrupt their businesses, and no one will lose their livelihood as a result of the construction. Additionally, he announced plans to build a daycare center for traders who bring their children to work, providing a convenient and supporting facility. He also revealed that construction is expected to begin in September 2024.

In conclusion, the Hon. MCE stated that data has been collected in existing shops at the station, and this was facilitated through the process of issuing temporary structure permits. This suggests that the necessary groundwork has been done for the renovation project to move forward.

AdMA HELD ENTRANCE MEETING FOR THE 1ST QUARTER 2024 MONITORING EXERCISE.

The Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) received officials from the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on Tuesday, 11^th June 2024 for the commencement of the First Quarter Performance Monitoring Exercise. The Team from the RCC was led by the Director of Administration, Prince Newman.

Addressing the meeting, the Director of Administration at the RCC noted that the exercise was in line with the functions of the RCC enshrined in the Section 188 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). He also expressed commendation to the Management and Staff for their show of inclusiveness and commitment to the exercise. He stated that AdMA was the first Assembly they had experienced such massive attendance by staff. He further stated that staff were not new to the exercise, hence expected prompt response to the calls of the team.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Doku welcomed all present and urged Heads of Departments and Units to corporate with the team. He assured the team of prompt responsiveness from staff.

INNOVATE YOUR FARMING METHODS

On Wednesday 15^th May, 2024, a stakeholder’s engagement meeting with farmers was held at Trassaco Kings Cottage Estates. The meeting organized by the Agriculture Department of the Adentan Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Women in Agricultural Development and Farmer Groups within the Municipality.

Present at the meeting was the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Doku, the Municipal Director of Agriculture; Madam Rosemond Adjeoda, the Municipal Planning Officer Mrs. Ivy Oduro Kwarteng, the Farmers Groups, Food Processors and the Women in Agric Developments.

The Municipal Chief Executive, warmly welcomed everyone and expressed his gratitude for their attendance. He explained the purpose of the meeting is: to enlighten farmers and processors about the Agric value chain and the support available from the Adentan Municipal Assembly.

The MCE acknowledged the work of Farmer’ Groups and their concerns, and promised to work with the Municipal Department of Agriculture to find lasting solutions. He encouraged Farmer Groups to share information about the Assembly’s interventions.

Madam Rosemond Adjeoda, the Agriculture Director, emphasized the benefits of collaboration among farmers. She outlined various initiatives and support provided by the Agriculture Department and the Municipal Assembly, including training, resources and giving access to market their produce. She also highlighted the department’s goal of enhancing the farming community’s productivity and well-being through a collaborative approach.

Madam Humu Kulsum Ibrahim the representative of the Municipal National Youth Authority, announced that there was an initiative for women in agriculture, offering a grant from Mastercard Foundation for Business Start-ups. She added that the Foundation is targeting about one thousand (1000) beneficiaries between the ages of 18-35 years.

According to her, the first stage is for interested applicant to get registered and a day’s training in Financial and Literacy Education given. After which candidates Pitch their ideas to qualify for the Grant.

During the open forum session, some crop farmers shared their concern, on land scarcity, inadequate access to tractor services and the problem of limited market access,

Another farmer complained about high cost of input whiles a maize farmer also expressed frustration with army worms, which affected his yields despite heavy investments.

Alhaji Seidu Malik talked about land guards taking their lands for building houses’’ I was chased from my farm with cutlass by land guards, I had to run for my life’’.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture, assured him that the Assembly was working to supply necessary fertilizers to combat the disease. A representative from Women in Agriculture Development emphasized the need for government subsidies for seeds, feed, and Day-old chicks, as well as tractor provision for weed control.

The MCE in his closing remarks advised the farmers to be innovative in their farming methods to help address the issue of land scarcity within the Adentan Municipality, ‘’It’s about time you try the container farming if you have problem acquiring lands for farming activities ‘’ he added.

The farmers left with renewed hope and a sense of support from the Assembly and its partners. They look forward to seeing the positive impact and initiatives and collaborations discussed during the meeting.

KENEMA DISTRICT COUNCIL (KDC) EXPLORES GHANA’S LOCAL GOVERNANCE AND SERVICE DELIVERY SYSTEM ON STUDY TOUR TO ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

Kenema District Council (KDC) from Sierra Leone recently embarked on a study tour to the Adentan Municipal Assembly in Ghana, aiming to gain insights into the country’s decentralization, local governance, and service delivery systems. The study tour focused on various aspects, including local revenue generation, waste management, public financial management, and partnership management.

During the interactive sessions, the Municipal Finance Officer delivered a presentation on revenue improvement strategies and the processes involved. Participants learned about the steps taken to enhance local revenue generation and the challenges faced in the process.

Furthermore, the Municipal Development Planning Officer provided valuable insights into local economic development, emphasizing the preparation of the Action Plan and the medium-term development plan. The presentation shed light on the processes involved in these initiatives and their significance for Adentan Municipal Assembly.

Addressing waste management, the Municipal Director guided the visitors through the intricacies of the waste management system. They discussed the importance of waste segregation, collection, and final disposal. Additionally,

the discussions revolved around the necessary resources for effective waste management and the challenges associated with this crucial issue. Future solutions and innovative approaches were also explored to tackle waste management in the long term.

To offer a more practical experience, the study tour included a field trip to showcase several infrastructure projects that promote citizen-friendly public offices. Notable locations visited were the Adentan Multi-purpose High Court, a school structure built with community engagement, and a newly constructed facility that converts waste into a source of income and employment (Adentan Waste to Wages Projects (ADWAWA). AdMA ENGAGES KEY STAKEHOLDERS AT OGBOJO

Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) took a significant step towards fostering community engagement by organizing a stakeholders’ meeting at Ogbojo Promush Forecourt on Sunday, June 11, 2023. The event brought together representatives from various sectors, including resident associations, traders, transport operators, traditional authorities, and assembly members.

The primary objective of this gathering was to establish an interactive platform where stakeholders could voice their concerns and collaborate on finding viable solutions for the municipality’s challenges. Honorable Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, the Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, addressed the participants and encouraged them to freely express their grievances, emphasizing that the meeting aimed to cater to their needs and aspirations.

During his address, Honorable Adumuah stated, “Today, we are in Nii Ashaley zonal council, specifically Ogbojo electoral area, to understand the issues you believe need attention. We want to hear what makes you happy and what concerns you. The idea is to provide you with an opportunity to share your thoughts. Sometimes you may have complaints, and other times you may want to commend us for the work we are doing, but you don’t always have the chance to communicate with us. So, we have come to you. Open your hearts and talk to us.”

In addition to the interactive session, representatives from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) took advantage of the occasion to address misconceptions surrounding the scheme. They clarified that the NHIS offers coverage for a wide range of diseases and medical conditions, countering the common belief that it only caters to painkillers and consultations. The NHIS team also urged attendees to ensure they possessed an NHIS card and encouraged stakeholders to book appointments to facilitate the registration of their members onto the scheme.

Furthermore, Stanley Otabel Donkor led a team from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to highlight an innovative initiative related to property rate collection under the assembly.Mr. Donkor introduced “Myassembly.gov.gh,” an online platform designed to enable property owners to make payments conveniently from home. The system also displays the annual payment amount after registration.Mr Donkor emphasized the flexibility of the platform and encouraged attendees to visit the assembly for assistance with registration and guidance on its usage.

The stakeholders’ meeting provided a valuable opportunity for participants to seek clarification on NHIS-related matters and the new property rate collection initiative. It also allowed them to contribute their suggestions on developmental issues within their communities and the broader municipality.

Overall, the engagement session at Ogbojo Promush Forecourt demonstrated AdMA’s commitment to inclusive governance and its dedication to addressing the concerns of its constituents. By actively involving stakeholders, AdMA aims to foster collaboration, build trust, and create a better future for all residents of the Adentan Municipality.

SWCD JOINS THE 60+ FOUNDATION TO DONATE TO THE ELDERLY IN ADENTAN.

The 60+ Foundation in Collaboration with the Social Welfare and Community Department of the Adentan Municipal Assembly has donated 50 hampers to the elderly in the Adentan Municipality.

This was done on Saturday, 7^th January,2023 at the premises of Adentan Municipal Assembly with a short ceremony led by the founder and president of the 60+ Foundation, Felix Osom Boafo.

In an interview with the founder and president of the foundation after the ceremony, Mr. Boafo said the aim of the foundation is to see to the holistic well-being of the elderly and serve as a platform where one can age or grow with a smile.

He added that the foundation is looking forward to establish a care center for the elderly where they can receive free health care, socialize and also eat. He also urged individuals to make it a point to draw closer to the elderly in the community for advice.

“The foundation seeks to take care of the holistic well-being of the elderly. We are also working on a care center facility for them which will cater for their health, social and food needs. Let us endeavor to draw close to them and seek advice since they have been through all the phrases of life”, he stated.

On the other hand, the Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah urged the residents of the Municipality to get close to the Assembly with whatever they have in order to see how best it can be utilized for the growth of the Assembly since there is more blessing in giving than receiving.

“Those in the Municipality should get close to us with whatever they have in their hands so we see how best we can utilize what God has given us together because the more you give the more you receive and also prolong your life”, he said.

Some of the beneficiaries from the donation thanked the Foundation and the Assembly for rekindling their hope in life and asked that God bless them in every endeavor of their lives.

THE SKILLS TOWARDS EMPLOYMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY (STEP) PROGRAMME OPENED.

The STEP is a set of Artisanal Skills Training Programme tailored for skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled youth in Ghana, to enable them take advantage of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. The Programme uses a mix of Technical, Vocational, Apprentinship and Entrepreneurships Models under the National Youth Authority.

This first phase of the STEP (Piloting phase) covers four main trade areas such as Hair dressing, Dress making, Make up/Cosmetology and Installation of Digital(Satellites).

A ceremony was organized on Friday 25^th November 2022 at the Resurrection Methodist Church in Adentan to usher in twenty-.eight (28) beneficiaries from the various communities within the Adentan Municipal Assembly

The MCE in his welcome address said the youth is the future of every nation and tasked all beneficiaries of the Programme to take the opportunity presented with the new skills and training they would acquire.

‘’You will be learning new skills a lot of skills that can make you an employer, you will get the chance to impact knowledge on others and also make more money’’ he added.

The Deputy Chief Executive of the National Youth Authority in charge of Finance and Administration said the Authority advocate for youth development and the need for training in employable skills.

She advised the beneficiaries to take their training seriously ‘’because training makes you better, and for everything you learn from today continue to train yourself and pray always’ ’she said. Beyond training beneficiaries were presented with training kits to make them empowered and productive after acquiring the skills.

The Municipal Head of the National Youth Authority Madam Humu Kulsum Ibrahim said, the Authority would expand the Programme to take more people for training in future and thanked all those who made the Programme successful.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Daniel Alexander Nii Noi Adumuah, the MCD Madam Jemima Tsina Apedo Hon. SENSITIZATION FOR DAYCARE PROPRIETORS/ PROPRIETRESS IN THE ADENTAN MUNICIPALITY.

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development on Tuesday, 15th November 2022, organized a meeting with the Proprietors/proprietress in the Adentan Municipality at the Fafraha Senior High School to train the heads of Day-Care Centers on Operational Standards for already established and emerging Day-Care Centers or Nursery in the municipality.

The Operational Standard is a tool to provide information and guide to the day-to-day operations of a child-Care Facility. The operational standards are developed to provide clear and consistent expectations for child-care centers as well as encourage purposeful and strategic conversations to support capacity building, professional learning, and continuous service improvement.

The 1992 constitution of Ghana enjoins the government to ensure the survival and development of a child. Article 28 tasks parliament to put in place laws that protect the child, hence promoting their interest and fulfilling their rights.

There are several existing national policies and programs that directly or indirectly have impacts on the welfare of children. The Department of Social Welfare in their training talked about The Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560) under which their main focus was on Sub-part II (Day-Care Centers) sub-section 115 to 120.

Sub-section 115 talks about the application to operate Day-Care Centers thus, the application for a permit to operate from the Department at the Assembly. The application shall be accompanied by such fee as may be prescribed in a by-law of a District Assembly. Any Day-Care Center in operation without a permit granted by a department shall be closed on fourteen days’ notice to the owner or operator by the Department.

Under sub-section 116, the Department shall inspect the premises, accounts, books, and other records of a Day-Care center at least once every six months and shall submit a report of the inspection to the Social Services sub-committee of a District Assembly. If the inspections that the Day-Care Centre is not being managed efficiently in the interest of the children, the Department shall suspend the Permit and the owner shall be ordered to make good any default within a stipulated time. If the owner or operator fails to make good of the stipulated time, the permit shall be canceled.

Sub-section 117 (by-laws and guidelines) states that a District Assembly shall issue such by-laws and guidelines as determined for the operation of Day-Care Centers within the districts.

Sub-section 118 (policy directives). The Ministry for Social Welfare and the Ministry for Education may issue such policy directives as may be necessary for the operation of daycare centers.

Sub-section 119 (Existing Operators) Any persons who owns/operates a day-care center before the commencement of this Act who intends to continue to operate the Day-Care Centre shall apply to the Department for a permit within six months of the commencement of is Act.

It was stated that the offense under this sub-part 120; any persons who operates a day-care without a permit issued by the Department or continues to operate a day-care Centre in contravention of this part or obstructs or hinders any persons conducting an inspection under sub-part commits an offense and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding five million or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year or to both and in the case of continuing offense to a further fine not exceeding ¢100,000 for each day on which the offense continues.

A three-member committee was set up by which the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Daniel Nii-Noi Adumuah inaugurated them into office. The committee members include Mrs. Sylvia Asempa of Liddle Lyceum located at Lakeside, Mr. Charles Adu-Poku of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom located at Nana-Krom and Mrs. Theresa B. Mantey of MamaTess Child Care Centre at Housing Down. This committee coordinates activity in the municipality between the Social Welfare Department, the Day-Care Centers and the Adentan Municipal Assembly and they serve as representatives for the other Day-Cares in the Adentan Municipality.

The Municipal Finance Office encouraged the Day-Care Centers representatives to pay their bills so that the Assembly can use their funds to help the community.

They were advice to operate on the ground floors of their building since they are dealing with kids between the ages of zero and three years, and if they find themselves on the first floor, they were advised to provide barricades for the safety of the children.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZED A CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING FOR SECRETARIES

A three (3) days capacity building training on client management and communication skills was organized for twenty secretarial grade and client service officer.

The basic reason for the training was to equip them with the basic communication skills and client management.

This training Programme is part of the capacity building tool to refresh staff of the Assemble. On behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive the Human Resource Manager of Adentan Municipal Assembly welcome the participants to the Programme and advised them to be very serious with the lesson sessions and to take every lession serious.

He advised them to concentrate more on all the areas the resource person will take them through.

The resource person, Mr. Percy Anaab Bukari welcome all participants and introduced the course out line in the areas of customer care orientation understanding different personality traits, effective communication in client services.

He said these outline, when explained to the letter, would help equip staff to execute their duties effectively as client service officer.

Mr. Bukari explained to staff the meaning of clients, corporate image management effective client service and effective communication.

After the three (3) days training the participants were very happy and appreciative for the capacity building training. They explained the lessions they have benefited from the training pragramme.
