Determined to boost vaccination rates, Adentan Municipal Health Directorate has embraced a large-scale immunization campaign led by GAVI in partnership with the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH). This initiative, covering 100 districts nationwide, is being locally implemented by Agenda Developers Organization in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate.

At the launch, Municipal Health Director Dr. Priscilla Opoku expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention. She pointed out that the municipality, ranked as the worst-performing district in Ghana’s 2024 vaccination coverage report, urgently needs targeted solutions to overcome persistent challenges.

Municipal Disease Control Officer Dr. Elliot Amankwah highlighted a key concern—vaccine hesitancy, notably in areas like Nii Ashalley and Gbentannaa zones. Yet, he commended zones such as Koose and Sutsurunaa for their encouraging acceptance and progress, as supported by recent research findings.

Leading the charge on the ground, Mr. John Dei, Executive Director of Agenda Developers, conducted a comprehensive training session for community volunteers. The session focused on mastering data collection tools and effective engagement strategies. The aim is to monitor vaccination defaulters, educate communities on immunization benefits, and dismantle misconceptions around childhood vaccines.

This collaborative, grassroots-driven approach is not only expected to enhance immunization coverage significantly but also empower communities with essential health knowledge. As Adentan embarks on this transformative journey, optimism continues to rise regarding its long-term impact on public health and child well-being.

Adentan Municipal Assembly Heads of Department recently benefited from a two-day capacity building program on stress, temperament, and anger management. The program, organized by the Psychological Institute, took place at the Thea Hotel in Ashalley Botwe.

The primary objective of the training was to strengthen the participants’ ability to manage stress and temperaments effectively. The resource person for stress and depression denial, Madam Gloria Sarkodia, provided valuable insights on stress management techniques and how to assist colleagues in overcoming stress- related challenges. She urged participants to maintain a healthy mindset and not allow stressors to disrupt their productivity both at work and home.

During the training, Madam Sarkodia highlighted various causes of stress, including tremors, loneliness, lack of self-confidence, and irresponsible behavior. She emphasized that individuals with clear minds can transform these stressors into positive outcomes.

The second half of the training was led by Dr. Innocent Adamadu, who provided a comprehensive explanation of temperament, its scientific basis, and the different types of temperament exhibited by individuals. Dr. Adamadu explained that everyone possesses a combination of temperaments and outlined four maintypes: Popular Sanguine, Powerfully Choleric, Perfect Melancholy, and Peaceful Phlegmatic.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Adentan Municipal Assembly, Hon. D.A Nii-Noi Adumuah, expressed gratitude to the organizers and Heads of Department for their participation. He believed that the training session would have a positive impact on everyone involved, enhancing their overall well-being and productivity.

AdMA EHSU Screens 1216 Food Vendors in the Municipality

The Environmental Health Service Unit (EHSU) of the Adentan Municipal Assembly (ADMA) has successfully screened 1216 food vendors in the municipality during the first quarter of 2023. This crucial initiative ensures that all food vendors are medically fit to prepare meals for public consumption, emphasizing the safety and well-being of the general public.

The screening process, conducted by the dedicated officers of the EHSU, aims to verify the health status of food vendors, ensuring that they adhere to the necessary hygiene standards. The officers responsible for the screening highlighted that overall, the process went smoothly without any major challenges. However, they did note a recurring issue where some vendors failed to show up for the screening after purchasing and completing the required forms. This lack of participation was attributed to vendors relocating or deciding to discontinue their food vending businesses.

In addition to the successful screening efforts, the officers acknowledged certain irregularities in waste collection within the municipality. They attributed these issues to various factors, including frequent breakdowns of waste collection vehicles, the distance to landfill sites, defaults in refuse levy payments, and the high cost of fuel. However, the Adentan Municipal Assembly has taken several measures to address these challenges.

The Assembly has proactively facilitated the acquisition of transfer stations, which will significantly reduce travel and turnaround times for waste collection vehicles. This intervention aims to streamline waste management processes and enhance the efficiency of waste collection operations. Moreover, the Assembly has actively supported efforts to retrieve lost revenue for waste service providers, ensuring sustainable waste management practices.

ADENTAN RECEIVES FREE HEALTH SCREENING FROM CSR GHANA

Adentan Municipal Assembly received a much-needed boost in healthcare services as CSR Ghana in partnership with the Social Welfare and Community Department and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) conducted free health screening for residents.

The screening took place on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the premises of the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) and offered dental care, spinal care, blood pressure, sugar level, and free registration of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, in an interview, urged residents to take advantage of the free health screening and visit medical centers frequently for regular check-ups to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“What I say is that while you are here and you are healthy and walking around endeavor to walk to any of our health centers and tell them you have come for check-up. They will attend to you and let you know if you are healthy or not afterwards and the medication you can use,” he said.

The founder of team CSR Ghana, Mr. Jonathan Akuamoah, said the free health screening was aimed at giving residents the opportunity to access free healthcare.

“We are doing this to make sure that those in need of health care in Adentan have free NHIS cards to be able to seek medication when they need to,” he said.

In addition, Mr. Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, the Deputy Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), said the free health screening was part of the “give back to Ghana project” as part of the “come back to Ghana” initiative. He believes that community engagement is key to building a better nation.

“We are grateful to all the groups that are helping to make this happen today. You are virtually living to the expectations of the fact that our communities need lots of support. A lot of these community engagements help us to be able to build our national,” he said.

The free health screening received positive feedback from residents who appreciated the effort by CSR Ghana, the Adentan Municipal Assembly, and the Ghana Tourism Authority. It is hoped that more initiatives like this will be organized in the future to improve the healthcare system in Ghana.

Exciting news for the Ashaley Botwe community in Adentan, as a new health facility has been announced! The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, alongside key stakeholders, recently cut the sod for the construction of a two-story block clinic that will offer various healthcare services to the community.

This state-of-the-art clinic will feature a consultation room, labor wards, offices, and a dispensary to issue drugs. Additionally, it will serve as a center for educating new parents on child care and immunization, as well as a place for providing first aid to the sick. The clinic will serve two critical purposes, according to Honorable Adumuah. The first is to provide excellent healthcare to the community, while the second is to improve the image of Adentan by demonstrating that the municipality has high-quality medical centers.

Honorable Adumuah went on to say that the new reproductive health center will be a great asset to the community. He explained that when officials from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) visit, they assess the number of children who are born and living in the area. Therefore, the clinic will significantly contribute to the improvement of maternal healthcare in Adentan.

Chief of Ashaley Botwe, Hon. Nii Afutu Kotey Gbomosane II, expressed his delight at the new facility. He revealed that the decision to build the clinic was made after a meeting with the principal elders of the town, who agreed to provide land for the project. Furthermore, the Assembly Member for Nii Ashaley’s electoral area, Honorable Steven Akrofi, noted that the community was fully aware of the project’s progress and eagerly anticipated the benefits it would bring.

Before the project commenced, the community engaged in consultations to understand the intentions of the stakeholders regarding the new facility. Botwe is a densely populated area without any healthcare facilities, and the CHIPS compound is the only option available. Therefore, the new clinic is a much-needed project that will cater to the community’s health needs. NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE AUTHORITY (NHIA) GIVES BIRTH TO A NEW DIGITAL APP CALLED “MyNHIS APP”.

The National health insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Adentan held a stakeholder engagement for its facilities within the Adentan Municipality. The engagement was held on the 19^th and 20^th of January 2023 at the AdMA conference hall to help train and educate their health administrators in health facilities within the municipality about its new APP innovation called “MyNHIS APP”.

Speaking to Robert Nii Adotey Allotey, MIS officer for Adentan NHIS District office, in an interview he said that, Costumers could access NHIS service through “MyNHIS APP”, including self-registration and renewal, registration and renewal for third parties, frequently asked questions about NHIS and linking ones Ghana card to the NHIS card can be ascertained on the APP without having to visit their office.

According to him, this APP can be found on google play store and equally on apple store and further explained that all you need to do is to download the App and with the help of your Ghana card, you can generate digital card for yourself to use it to access healthcare.

He further explained that beneficiaries are only restricted when they do not have access to a smart phone and internet.

“The NHIS is utilizing technology by creating mobile application to ensure that members may easily access the services of the NHIS scheme outside their home” according to him.

In an interaction with a stakeholder, she said that, the innovation is very convenient as compared to previously means of accessing healthcare since it will save them the stress of going to their office.

She added that, “this will go a long way to help Ghanaians have access to general healthcare.

PRCC SENSITIZES MARKET WOMEN ON DOMESTIC FIRE PREVENTION

The Public Relation and Complaint Committed (PRCC) of the Adentan Municipal Assembly has held a sensitization program in collaboration with the Ghana Fire Service to educate the market women in Adentan Shopping Mall and Ogbojo market on how to prevent domestic fire outbreaks on Monday 19^th of December, 2022.

This was part of the PRCC’s mandate to sensitize members of the public on activities of the Assembly as well as to interact with the market women and also create a platform for them to ask the fire officers questions on domestic fire prevention during this dry and festive season.

DOII Gifty Agyeiwa Akai-Nettey from the Adentan Municipal station led the education team to sensitize the women. She said there are three components that boost fire burning thus heat, oxygen and fuel. These things according to her are found in our surroundings hence being cautious in handling them will help prevent fire outbreaks in the community.

Mrs.Akai- Nettey further explained the importance of having fire extinguishers and smoke detectors at home as first aid fire detecting and prevention tools and urged the women to make it a point to get some for their various homes.

“Women we buy cloths and do our hair all the time but when fire officers come around and ask us to buy fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to protect our own lives, we feel reluctant. These things are very important as fire first aids to alert and protect us from any threat in regards to domestic fire outbreaks in our homes”, she said.

However, the Chairman of the PRCC of the Assembly Honorable Joseph Odai Boye through his representative Honorable Vivian Bosompem thanked the women for taking time of their busy schedules to be a part of the program and advised them to always make themselves available for such sensitizations for their own benefit.

ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ADJUDGED CLEANEST DISTRICT IN GHANA

The Adentan Municipal Assembly, in the Greater Accra Region last Saturday, was adjudged the cleanest District in Ghana at the Maiden National District Awards at Kumasi on the theme: ‘’ACCELERATING NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH EXCELLENCE IN LOCAL GOVERNANCE’’.

Adentan emerged as the first district in sanitation based on the 2021 district awards. The award was instituted by the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF) in collaboration with National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) with support from the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) focused mainly on the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. The award was aimed at engendering competition among District Assemblies in the country for policymakers to provide even and equitable resources to the less developed assemblies and put in place measures that would improve the general well-being of the population at the sub-national level.

Prof. George Gyan- Baffour, said the awards were not an assessment of the performance of the District Chief Executives, but to serve as a yardstick for the districts to emulate while at the same time encouraging the performing districts to shine.

On behalf of the Commission, Prof. George Gyan- Baffour expressed his gratitude to the MEF under the auspices of the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, and UNICEF for the laudable initiative which he believed would give substance and visibility to NDPC’s monitoring and evaluating functions.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Adentan, Hon. Alexander Nii Noi Adumuah was grateful to the foundation and NDPC for recognizing the efforts of the assembly in ensuring that the people had access to WASH-related services within the municipality.

MRS. MATILDA PRESNER DONATES TO FAFRAHA HEALTH CENTER

Mrs. Matilda Presner and her son on Monday the 15^th of November ,2022 made a donation to the Fafraha Health Centre at the office of the Physician in charge, Mrs. Justina Issaka.

Items donate were a desk-top computer, a printer and a ream of A4 Sheets.

The items were presented by Mrs. Matilda Presner a resident in the vicinity.

According to Mrs. Matilda Presner, the presentation made to the Health Centre was a precursor of her visit to the Centre during the Covid-19 vaccination program where she noticed the facility did not have a desktop for records keeping. She communicated with Mrs. Dorcas Asamoah a staff at the Health Centre and delivered on her promise. She advised the in-charge and her subordinates to take good care of the items and use the items for the intended purpose.

Mrs. Justina Issaka together with Mrs. Dorcas Asamoah and other health personnel acknowledge and showed gratitude to Mrs. Presner for her immense effort and considering the Fafraha Health Centre in reaching out to their needs. She also added that the director will look forward to providing them with access to the internet as well as looking forward to more donations.
