FACOSH INAUGURATES NEW SCHOOL BOARD

The Fafraha Community Senior High School (FACOSH) in the Adentan Municipality, on Wednesday the 27^th day of July 2022, inaugurated new board members to steer the affair of the school for the next four years (4).

The new board which is made up of eleven (11) members is led by Commissioner of Police retired, Kwesi Nkansah, a former chairman of the board. Members in board are, Ms. Monica Ankrah the Greater Accra Regional Education Director, Mr. Samuel Manteaw the Director General representative and Ms. Gifty Mussey, the Adentan Municipal Education Director. The rest are two (2) historical representatives in persons of Mr.Philip Nukuter Justice Amanor and Mrs. Regina N.A Kordia, also two(2) Assembly representatives who are, Hon. Ella Esinam Christine Nongo and Hon. Vivian Bosompem were part of the members. Others are, the Parent Teachers Association (P.T. A) representative, Ms. Christine A. Quartey, an old students’ representative Mr. Joseph Jectey Asare, the head master of the school, Mr. Edward Fayah, a teaching staff Mr. Prosper Yao Agbeko and a non-teaching staff Mrs. Perpetual D. Odonkor an Accountant with the school.

The new board members were sworn into office by a high court judge Justice Fred Kwesi Awuah and led them to take oath of office and secrecy which will guide them protect their integrity and confidentiality.

The Greater Accra Regional Education Director, Madam Monica Ankra admonished students to be disciplined, learn hard to take advantage of the free education system, and uphold their integrity. She warned students not to cause havoc in the school and also not to destroy properties of a sister school during an inter-school sports competition since they will be embarking on one this academic year.

The Municipal Chief Executives of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Hon. Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah who chaired the occasion, thanked the authorities and all stakeholders for making the programme successful. He urged the new board to employ their expertise, knowledge and experience to put Fafraha Community Senior High (FACOSH) to a higher pedestal. He also stated that, all board members are representatives of stakeholders involved and as such, they should communicate issues raised by the stakeholder in relation to FACOSH, to the board for appropriate actions to be taken to address such issues.

ADENTA COMMUNITY SCHOOL WINS A TROPHY.

Story tellers from the Adenta Community School in the Adentan Municipality led by Ms. Millicent Ofori the Headmistress and Mrs. Evelyn Ameamu paid a visit to Adentan Municipal Assembly to show their trophy to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) on 26^th of July, 2022.

The trophy was a prize for taking the first place in the just ended Regional Adesa Village Story Telling Competition which took place at the Arts Centre in Accra, on the 17^th June, 2022.

Adentan Community School excelled in the competition held at the municipal level by beating eight (8) schools organized by the Centre for National Culture (CNC) – Adentan at Sowa Din school.

The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Daniel Alexanda Nii-Noi Adumuah acknowledge the teachers and pupils for their immense effort in winning the trophy for Adentan. However, he charged the Municipal Culture Officers to keep records of stories told by the young story tellers and encourage such activities that promote indigenous culture and tradition.

The pupils were given the opportunity to demonstrate their story telling performances which comprises of singing and dancing.

Ms. Millicent Ofori expressed her gratitude to the MCE for supporting them in making the victory a reality.

THE ADENTAN HUMAN RESOURCE UNIT TRAINED HONOURABLE ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

The mandate of the Human Resource Unit is to build the capacity of Staff and Honorable Assembly members through training and workshops. This will help in ensuring great output from the trained staff and the Assembly members in their respective roles. In 2021, the Assembly through the Human Resource Unit organized a special training session for all Assembly members and selected staff to build their capacity on the revised Procurement Act 914. The three (3) days training started on the 7^th December, to 9^th December,2021.

The training has a core aim of equipping members with the requisite information which will enable them to understand how procurement processes are executed in the Assembly and other ministries, Departments, Agencies and MDA’s. According to the head of Human Resource Management, the training objectives were in three points, that is;

To equip members with the concept of procurement.
To build the capacity of the Assembly members and Staff.
To assist Assembly members and staff explore the procurement Act 633 and the revised act 914.

The training Programme targeted the municipal Chief Executive member of parliament Assembly members, Secretary of the Assembly Local Government Staff and any other management staff approved by the leadership of the assembly.

The capacity took the trainees through modules in the revised procurement act 914 such as Procurement Plan, Qualification of Tenders, Records of Procurement proceedings for module one (1). It further took them through the second module which is Public Notice of procurement Awards, Content of Tender document and use of Standard tender documents and Qualification and Suspension of Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants.

Module three (3) taught the trainee Competitive Tendering and Two Stage Tendering.

Module four (4) speaks about Restricted Tendering and Entity Tender Committee.

Finally Procurement for Single Source, Procurement for module five (5), Language of Tendering for module six (6) and the rest are Evaluation of Tendering for module seven (7) and offence relating to Procurement Threshold for Regional Coordinating Council and MMDCE’s and the content of tender.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRIC CARRIED OUT ANTI RABIES MASS VACCINATION IN THE ADENTAN MUNICIPALITY

Rabies is an infectious and fatal disease transmitted through the bite and/or coming in contact with infected animals like DOGS, CATS and MONKEYS.

The signs of rabies include salivation, paralysis and death of infected animals. The bat is primary and a natural carrier of rabies but dogs, cats, monkeys and all warm blooded animals including human being can be carriers of the fatal disease.

There is no cure for rabies but there are 3 ways in which it can be prevented,

By giving our pets annual anti rabies vaccine
Ensuring that our pets do not stray/move about from the home.
By preventing strange pets from visiting your pets.

All necessary rabies documents of your pets must be well kept.

ANTI RABIES MASS VACCINATION EXERCISE

The Adentan Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Department of Agric, the vertinary division organized an anti-rabies mass vaccination within the various zonal councils, from the 4^th September to 6^th October 2021 to curb the spread of rabies among animals within the municipality.

The exercises took place in areas such as NEW LEGON, ADENTA, MALEJOR, AMRAHIA, AMANFRO, ASHIYIE, FAFRAHA, ASHALE BOTWE, NMAI DZORN, and LAKESIDE.

In each of these areas at least 3-4 vaccination clinics were mounted in other to get closer to the pet owners.

The main purpose of the exercise was to curb the spread of rabies as well as educate pet owners on how to relate to their pets.

Before the exercise, an announcement was carried out to inform target communities and languages used were mainly TWI, ENGLISH and GA.

TARGETED PEOPLE (AUDIENCE)

The targeted people were the general public especially pet owners within the Adentan Municipal Assembly, regardless of their background and/or status.

AREAS VISITED

The announcement was done in almost all the electoral areas within the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA).

AUDIENCE REACTIONS

Some people were happy to see the announcement van in their communities.
Some pet owners were happy and they recommended the assembly for that.

OBSERVATIONS

The early morning announcement was very effective because of less noise in the environment.
Some people even came out of their rooms and houses to come closer to the announcement van to listen to the announcement.

CHALLENGES

Communication gadgets in the information van was not state-of-the-art and therefore makes the exercise very difficult.
Poor road network within the assembly prevented us from reaching some areas.

RECOMMENDATION

The early morning must be focused on very well therefore the announcement even be done ones a day.
The announcement van should be more than one for any public announcement.
Letters should be sent to the various social/religious/landlords groups in the Adentan Municipal Assembly, so as the announcement will serve as a reminder.

CONCLUSION

The Municipal Information Services office view the announcement as very effective means of sensitization and/or awareness creation on rabies control to the general public looking at the attendance and therefore will encourage the municipal Agric Department to embarked on the exercise yearly to eradicate rabies out of the municipality. Therefore, the announcement must be well planned and budgeted for effective exercise year on year.

PRESIDENT CUTS SOD FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SPORTS COMPLEX AT BORTEYMAN TOWARDS THE 2023 ALL AFRICAN GAMES

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo- Addo has cut the sod for the construction of a Sports Infrastructure for the hosting of the 13^th African Games at Borteyman. The ceremony was held on the 31^st of August 2021.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Mustapha Ussif in his welcome address thanked all stakeholders present for their support and for being part of the ceremony. He further gave a brief history of the African Games which started in Congo Brazzaville in July 1965 with over 2500 athletes from 30 countries.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo- Addo, announced that Ghana has been nominated to host the 13^th edition of the African Games in 2023 and expressed hope that Ghana will organise the best ever African Games in history.

He further stated that hosting the 13^th African Game will afford Ghana the opportunity to address some challenges in the sports sector by providing human resource to run and manage sports in Ghana, most importantly it will provide state of the art modern sports facility that will support the development of sports in the country.

In addition his Excellency said that the Borteyman community will be equipped with international standards to allow other recognised sports activity to be also take place.

Present at the ceremony were the Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr Henry Quartey, Municipal Chief Executive for Adentan Mr. Alexander Nii Adumuah and Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan.

AdMA Staff oriented on Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP)

The Adentan Municipal Assembly has oriented its staff on the newly developed 2022-2025 MTPD at a staff durbar at the Calvary Baptist Church. This was part of efforts to sensitize staff on projects and programs in the plan that is going to guide the development agenda of the Assembly for the next four years.

Presenting the plan to staff, Mrs. Rebecca Anan, the Municipal Planning Officer encouraged staff to familiarize themselves with the plan so as to know what role to play to make its implementation a success. She further took staff through projections captured in the plan and their corresponding budgetary allocations.

Staff were also taken through on the Public Service Commission leave policy by the Human Resource Manager Ms. Dela Gbedemah.

The Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah in his address, encouraged staff to give off their best to bring development to Adentan. He further urged them to take the waste segregation initiative seriously by properly segregating waste generated in their various offices.

ADMA HOLDS STAKEHOLDER MEETING WITH STATE OWNED INSTITUTIONS

As part of efforts to ensure effective development within its municipality, the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) has held a stakeholder meeting with its municipality-based state owned institutions.
The meeting which took place at the conference room of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Friday, 13, 2021 afforded Representatives of the various state owned institutions in the municipality an opportunity to shed light on issues regarding their performance and achievements.

According to Dr. Jeffrey Arhin from AdMA Municipal Health Directorate, efforts were being made by the directorate to provide affordable and easy access of health services within the municipality. He added that the improvement of vaccination and restore services were on a normal level.
AdMA Head of Urban Roads, Mr. Salifu underscored the need for the assembly to fix broken culverts in flood-prone areas such as Frafraha, New Legon, and Ogbojo Polyclinic so as to put an end to the perennial flooding in those areas,
Mr. Salifu revealed at the meeting that his outfit had plans to create a harmonized accident free environment by making sure zebra crossings were generated around most schools and all malfunctioning traffic lights were repaired.
Humphrey Ankamah, NADMO said The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) had begun a tree planting project along water bodies across the municipality which aimed at solving issues of flood as well as preserve the environment

Representative from the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr. Frederick Okoto stated that GRA had put in place measures to ease the processes of revenue collection with regards to the uses of banks and mobile money portals. He highlighted the need for the assembly to embark on extensive sensitization of the constituents with regards to the payment of taxes.
AdMA Social Welfare Department representative also said the department was collaborating with UNICEF to eradicate child street-ism in the municipality.
Also present at the meeting were the Ghana Water company Limited, CSIR (Animal Research Institute), The Information Services Department, Ghana Post, Ghana Education Services.
Expressing her gratitude to the participants, the Municipal Coordinating Director Mrs. Jemima Apedo said, “an important meeting such as this gives a clear direction and possible suggestions for the achievement of the all people centered vision of the Assembly.”

ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY DISBURSED ITEMS TO PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (PWDs) THROUGH THE SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The Disability Common Fund (DCF) is three (3) percent of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) set aside for Persons with Disability (PWDs) to alleviate them from poverty and improve the living conditions of this marginalized group in the society. As enshrined under Section 252 of the 1992 Constitution, the DACF is distributed among the Assemblies on the basis of a formula proposed by its Administrator upon Parliament’s approval after which the DCF is made available to augment the wellbeing of PWDs.

Base on foregoing, the office of Social Welfare received thirty-two (32) applications for Trade and twenty-nine (29) applications for Investment from PWDs within the municipality. Accordingly, the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC) upon its intensive assessment approved twenty-eight (28) applications for Trade and twenty-one (21) for Investment.

On the 2^nd day of June 2021, the twenty-one (21) PWDs (11 Males and 10 Females) who were approved by the DFMC to be given an investment support were provided with the various startup kits they requested to commence a business on their own. A ceremony that was scheduled at 14:00 GMT to hand these items to the PWDs rather started at 16:00 GMT due to an equally important event which took the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) away from the Assembly’s premises.

Opening Remark

At 16:00 GMT, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Madam Jemima Apedo welcomed everyone to the programme and apologized for the delay of the programme. In her opening remark, Mad. Apedo stated that the government has set aside funds from the DACF to provide Educational, Trade & Industry, and Investment supports for PWDs within its municipality. The MCD added that the Assembly no longer gives out cash to the PWDs to address their needs but rather uses those funds to provide them with any of the three (3) supports stated above after a need assessment on the targeted beneficiaries has been conducted by the DFMC.

According to Mad. Jemima Apedo, a statement from the MCE indicates that the Assembly has provided Educational support to thirty-three (33) PWDs (16 Females, 17 Males) in April 2021 at a total cost of GhȻ 42, 000. Whilst eighteen (18) of these beneficiaries are in the basic schools, five (5) of them are in the senior cycle schools and the remaining ten (10) are in the tertiary schools. Likewise, twenty-eight (28) PWDs were also provided with Trade and Industries support at a cost of GhȻ 37, 000.

In furtherance of the above, the Assembly again is providing an Investment support (items requested by the PWDs and sanctioned by the DFMC to twenty-one (21) PWDs today 2^nd June, 2021. The beneficiaries were advised to make economic use of these items so as to improve their financial fortunes which would in tend have a ripping effect on them and their families at large.

Mad. Jemima Apedo ended her remarks by congratulating all the PWDs who have sailed through the process and have gathered here for the various items they have requested for.

The Chairman, Mr. E. T. Plahar stressed on the selection process right from application to the vetting of applicants by the DFMC. The PWDs were urged to protect the items and also encouraged to put their best foot forward in order to make economic gain from the very items which were given to them on pro bono.

At his arrival at 16:49 GMT, the MCE, Hon. Daniel Nii Noi Adumuah apologized profusely for been late and said he went to Accra to pay tribute to the family of the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (Mr. Nii Adjei Sowah) whose wife gave up the ghost that morning.

The MCE congratulated the beneficiaries and advised the Caregivers not to leave the items idle in their respective homes but should use them for commercial purposes. He added that what they would use the items for will show whether they would be better off financially or not.

He cautioned the beneficiaries not to sell the items as had happened in the past and hence expects a stupendous growth in their businesses and proceeds when the Monitoring team reports to him some time to come.

From the table above, twenty-one startup kits were distributed to twenty-one (21) PWDs (11 males and 10 females). The breakdown of the twenty-one PWDs is spelt out below:

Also, the table equally shows that the 10 Deep Freezers procured were given to 7 physically challenged (3 males, 4 females), a female PWD with Down Syndrome, a female visually impaired and a male PWD with Cerebral Palsy.

The two industrial sewing machines were distributed between two male PWDs (Hearing impaired and physically challenged). Three physically challenged (1 male, 2 females) received the three Poly-tanks and another two Physically challenged (all males) took home the two Electric Corn Milling Machines.

Whereas the Knitting machine went a male physically challenged person, a female physically challenged had the Manual sewing machine. Identically, a female physically challenged received the Ice Chest and the Electric vegetable Grinding Machine was given to male Visually impaired.

AdMA NHIS registers 80% active members of its target figure

The National Health Insurance Scheme of the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) has registered eighty-four thousand nine hundred and sixty-three (84,963) active members representing 80% of a targeted figure of one hundred and four thousand, seven hundred and eight (104, 708) according to the municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Daniel Alexander Nii Noi Adumuah.
He revealed this at the assembly’s 1st Ordinary meeting for 2021 held in Adentan, Thursday April 29th – Friday April 30th 2021.
He said that mobile renewals for the year 2021 stood at four hundred and forty-three thousand three hundred and thirty-one (443, 331) and new membership registration was sixteen thousand seven hundred and seventy-one (16, 771).
“Because of our mobile renewals the number of clients that visit the office has been cut down significantly. We are hoping that with more sensitization the number will further reduce even as we take advantage of technology to reduce physical contacts,” said the MCE, Alexander Adumuah.
The MCE assured participants of the ordinary meeting that the office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will continue to do more sensitization on the mobile renewals which he said was fast catching up with residents of the Adentan municipality.
He said registration on school feeding and mass area registration would also continue.
