In a heartwarming display of generosity and compassion, the Adentan Municipal Assembly, in partnership with Tudec, made a significant donation of assorted food items to fifty vulnerable individuals residing in the municipality. The gesture, aimed at uplifting these individuals from their vulnerable circumstances, also served to underscore the significance and purpose of giving back to the community.

Led by the President of TUDEC, Cafer Titipi the event unfolded with an atmosphere of hope, renewal, and love. President Titipi addressed the beneficiaries, emphasizing the spirit of Easter and the importance of kindness. He expressed his belief that this joyous occasion would serve as a timely reminder for all to embrace acts of compassion and generosity towards those in need.

The recipients of the donated food items, who had been grappling with various challenges, were overwhelmed with gratitude upon receiving the much-needed support. The provisions will not only help alleviate their immediate needs but also offer a sense of encouragement and optimism for a brighter future.

“The Adentan Municipal Assembly’s collaboration with Tudec showcases the power of community engagement and the willingness to extend a helping hand to the most vulnerable members of society” the representative of the Municipal Chief, Enoch Afotey Odai stated. ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY MARKS THE 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Adentan municipal assembly came together to mark the 67th Independence Day celebration at the Adentan Community Basic School Park in the Gbentanaa Electoral Area on March 6, 2024. This year’s theme, “Our Democracy, Our Pride”, was highlighted throughout the festivities reminding the citizenry of the importance of democracy and unity in the nation.

Ghana’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on 6th March to honour the country’s heroes who led it to freedom from British colonial rule in 1957. Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first Prime Minister, declared Ghana’s independence on this day, making it the first sub-Saharan African country to achieve freedom from European colonialism. It is a national holiday for all Ghanaians, both at home and in the diaspora.

The event included various activities such as a match parade, students showcasing their marching skills, speeches, and the presentation of awards to deserving learners and schools.

The gathering was graced by notable figures including Hon. Ebenezer Doku, the Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Rachael Fosua Sarpong, the Municipal Coordinating Director, and Madam Gifty Mussey, the Municipal Education Director. Chief Superintendent Lawyer Richard Agyepong Boateng, the Divisional Police Commander, and Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey, Assembly member for the Otano Electoral Area and Presiding Member for the Adentan Municipal Assembly were also in attendance in addition to other assembly members and traditional rulers.

In his address, Mr. Ebenezer Doku, the Municipal Chief Executive emphasized the importance of upholding democracy and peaceful conduct as Ghana prepared for the upcoming general elections in December. He reminded the public that democracy should always be accompanied by peace and unity for the country to progress.

Several Schools participated in this year’s parade, including Fafraha Community Senior High School (FACOSH), Delcam Senior High School, Mercy Islamic Senior High School, and others. Unfortunately, due to the hot weather, 61 students including 26 males and 35 females collapsed during the parade. However, they were quickly attended to by the medical team on site, with one student referred to Fafraha Community Clinic for further medical attention.

The awards ceremony recognized outstanding performances in various categories such as best performance in the 2023 BECE, best schools in the 2023 BECE, and best sanitation practices. Both public and private school learners were acknowledged for their excellence in the 2023 WAEC examinations.

All participating schools in the parade were also awarded but based on their performances with Fafraha Community SHS being adjudged the overall best performing school of the day.

ADENTAN MCE CALLS FOR MORE RESPONSIBLE, TRANSPARENT AND INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE

The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Ebenezer Doku has urged Ghanaians to persist in their efforts towards more responsible, transparent, and inclusive governance, emphasizing the crucial role of civic engagement in shaping the nation’s democratic landscape.

Hon. Ebenezer Doku, made this clarion call when delivering an address during the 67^th Independence Day celebration held at Adentan Community Basic School Park in the Gbentaana Electoral Area of the municipality. This year’s theme, “Our Democracy, Our Pride”, was highlighted throughout the festivities reminding the citizenry of the importance of democracy and unity in the nation.

We have to keep on fighting for the democratic principles that made us who we are. We have to keep working towards more responsible, transparent and inclusive governance,” stated Hon. Ebenezer Doku.

The Municipal Chief Executive further encouraged Ghanaians to reaffirm their commitment to democratic principles, fostering a pursuit of a more equitable and prosperous society for all and future generations.

“Ladies and gentlemen, our democracy is our pride but it is also our responsibility. It is a responsibility that demands active engagement, thoughtful participation and a commitment towards a greater goal. Let us reaffirm our decisions to the democratic principles that guide us and let us recommit ourselves to the pursuit of a more just equitable and prosperous society for all and future generations.” Added Hon. Ebenezer Doku.

As an election year, Mr. Ebenezer Doku also used the platform and emphasized the importance of upholding democracy and peaceful conduct as Ghana prepared for the upcoming general elections in December. HOLLAND GREENTECH LAUNCHES ADENTA COMMUNITY GARDEN AT FAFRAHA

A new initiative by Holland Greentech was unveiled at the Fafraha Community Senior High School campus in the Adentan Municipality on Friday, 1st March 2024. The Adenta Community Garden project aims to provide residents with valuable skills in vegetable cultivation and entrepreneurship.

Participants in the project will have the opportunity to learn how to grow a variety of crops, including peppers, maize, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, and more.

The garden boasts a variety of crops and vegetables such as different types of peppers, sweet corn, various cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, kohlrabi, cabbage, lettuce, watermelon, eggplant, okra, carrots, spring onions, mint, celery and more.

Holland Greentech, a social enterprise with a strong track record in horticulture across Africa, will be providing inputs, technical support, and training to help participants achieve success in their agricultural ventures.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana, H.E. Mr Jeroen Verheul-Dutch, emphasized the importance of farming and smart agriculture in boosting incomes and ensuring food security.

He highlighted the success of the Netherlands, a small country with a thriving agricultural sector, as an example for Ghana to follow.

The Adenta Community Garden project is a collaborative effort involving Holland Greentech, Defarmercist, the Horticulture Business Platform (HBP), the Netherlands embassy to Ghana, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Adentan Municipal Assembly.

The launch event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana, H.E. Mr Jeroen Verheul-Dutch, the founder of Holland Greentech International, Mr Norbert van der Straaten, Ms Celestina Danso Arhin, Country Director of Holland Greentech Ghana, Ms Catherine Krobo Adusei, chairperson of Horticulture Business Platform (HBP), Ms Portia Edu-Essandoh, Deputy Coordinating Director of Adentan Municipal Assembly, Mr Edward Fayah, Headmaster of Fafraha Community Senior High School (FACOSH) and representatives from various organizations.

MS LEONTINE OTU: THE TEACHER BEHIND THE SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE OF MERCY ISLAMIC PRIMARY CADET CORPS

In the world of education, there are certain individuals who go above and beyond to inspire and ignite the passion of their students. One such individual is Ms Leontine Otu, the brain behind the spectacular performance of the Mercy Islamic Primary School cadet corps during their 20th Anniversary Speech and Prize Giving Day.

Mercy Islamic Primary School located at Lakeside within the New Adentan Electoral Area of the Adentan Municipality marked its 20th Anniversary Speech and Prize Day on Thursday, 22nd February, 2024. The event which was held on the school campus aimed to recognize and appreciate the hard work of both the learners and teachers in the school.

Established in 1998 under the name NGO African Movement FMC by Direct Aid, the school later transitioned to Mercy Social Center and eventually absorbed and enrolled as public school into Ghana Education Service (GES) in 2004. Since then, it has been operating as a public school

The ceremony featured a variety of activities including prayers, Quran recitals, cadet and Scout inspections, poetry recitals, traditional dances, presentation of gifts and awards, as well as speeches from various dignitaries.

One of the highlights of the event was the impressive and outstanding performance by the school cadet corps during the parade led by Ms Leontine Otu, a French teacher in the school.

The event left a lasting impression on all who attended. The young learners wowed their teachers and parents with their exceptional talents and skills as they performed the parade and scout inspection. Their entry, complete with a terrific band and immaculate marching, was jaw-dropping. The display of the Ghana and Kuwait flags, along with the professionalism of the commanding officer, left many wondering if they were witnessing a performance by trained police or military personnel.

In an interview with Ms Leontine Otu, the commanding officer, she revealed that she is not a police or military officer and has never received professional training in those fields. Instead, she learned many of the skills by watching training programs on television and taking her students to police and military barracks to observe their exercises. Her dedication to her students and willingness to go above and beyond to provide them with valuable experiences truly sets her apart as an exceptional educator.

Ms Leontine Otu is a teacher by profession, specializing in French language instruction at Mercy Islamic Primary school. A multilingual individual, she fluently speaks English, French, Ewe, Ga, Fanti, and Twi, with little Hausa showcasing her dedication to connecting with her students on a deeper level. Her passion for education and love for her students shines through in all that she does, making her a beloved figure in the school community. This was evident as she was awarded as the outstanding hardworking teacher during the programme.

Ms Leontine Otu, a Central University alumna, holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Studies since 2011. Her teaching journey began with training at Mount Mary College of Education, Somanya in the Eastern region of Ghana, complemented by secondary education at Fijai Secondary School in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region. Before joining Mercy Islamic Primary School, Ms. Otu taught at Holy Family and Prince of Peace all in Accra, showcasing a rich background in imparting knowledge and experience across multiple institutions.

When asked about the preparation for the outstanding performance they have exhibited, Ms Leontine revealed that they began rehearsing in November, 2023 in anticipation of a December event, which was later rescheduled to February so had enough time to rehearse. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by her students throughout the rehearsal process served as her motivation and driving force, inspiring her to push them to achieve greatness.

Despite her success as a teacher, Ms Leontine Otu harbors a lifelong dream of joining the police or military service as an officer. Her passion for serving her country and community is evident, and any opportunity to help her realize this dream would undoubtedly be life-changing for her.

Ms Leontine Otu stands out as a shining example of a dedicated and passionate educator who goes above and beyond to inspire her students. Her commitment to excellence and her unwavering love for her students make her a truly outstanding teacher. Whether she remains in the classroom or pursues a future in law enforcement, there is no doubt that she will continue to impact the lives of those around her in a positive and profound way.

MUNICIPAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR SEEKS DIRECT AID’S SUPPORT FOR FAFRAHA COMMUNITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Ms Gifty Mussey, the Adentan Municipal Education Director on Thursday, 22nd February, 2024 has appealed to Mr Sami Henedak Ahmed, the Country Director for Direct Aid, to extend support to Fafraha Community Senior High School. Addressing the challenges faced by the only public Senior High School in the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Ms Mussey emphasized the need for aid similar to that provided to Mercy Islamic schools.

The appeal was made during a brief ceremony at Mercy Islamic Senior High School, where Direct Aid donated teaching materials and offered financial assistance to struggling students. The items included exercise books, textbooks, footballs, sets of school uniform, a multifaceted printer and many other teaching and learning materials. The monetary aid amounted to 33,825 cedis cash, with the school accountant noting a prior payment of 20,175 cedis part payment towards the fees on Wednesday, 21^st February 2024.

The event was held in line with the Mercy Islamic Primary School’s 20th Anniversary Speech and Prize Day on Thursday, 22nd February, 2024 which was aimed to recognize and appreciate the hard work of both the learners and teachers in the school.

One of the highlights of the event was the impressive and outstanding performance by the school cadets during the parade led by Ms Leontine Otu, a French teacher in the school.

Notable speakers at the event included Hon. Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, former MCE for the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Ms. Gifty Mussey, Adentan Municipal Education Director, Mr. Sami Henedak Ahmed, Country Director of Direct Aid, and Mr. Yusif Ahmed, the Headteacher of Mercy Islamic Primary School.

During the ceremony, Direct Aid generously donated textbooks, exercise books, a printer, sets school uniform, and other teaching and learning materials to the school. Awards were also presented to outstanding students and teachers in various categories, with Assistant Headteacher Ms. Millicent Animah receiving the most outstanding teacher award.

The Direct Aid also built six-unit classroom block and handed it over to the school manage for use. The building was commissioned by Ms Gifty Mussey, Municipal Education Director and assisted by Mr. Sami Henedak Ahmed, Country Director of Direct Aid.

FORMER ADENTAN MCE URGES PARENTS AND TEACHERS TO PRIORITIZE DISCIPLINE IN CHILDREN

Former Municipal Chief Executive of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah has urged parents and teachers to focus on instilling discipline in children, emphasizing that they are the future of our society.

Hon. Nii-Noi Adumuah made this call when delivering a speech at Mercy Islamic Primary School’s 20th Anniversary Speech and Prize Day on Thursday, 22nd February, 2024 which was aimed to recognize and appreciate the hard work of both the learners and teachers in the school.

The former MCE stressed the importance of teaching children to listen and practice what they are taught, as they are the investments of tomorrow. He highlighted that ensuring children are well-behaved now will lead to a positive impact on future generations.

He urged parents and teachers to work together to train and guide young minds, noting that children have a clean sheet in their minds that needs to be filled with the right values and principles. Adumuah emphasized that investing in discipline now will result in responsible and successful individuals in the future, who will carry forward the aspirations of society.

“Our future investment is what we see today. If these children turn out to be very right, I believe that, when we are very old, our children will be able to take the frontiers and be able to show that the full potentials of education are being realized in them. All of us have to put our energies together to train these young ones. They have clean sheets in their mind. What we put there is what will show fort in the future. If we don’t put the right thing, they will be indiscipline children in the future. If we put in the right thing, they will be disciplined, they will be forbearers, they will be carriers of our dreams into the future”

ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ELECTS PRESIDING MEMBER AFTER THREE UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS

After three unsuccessful attempts, the Adentan Municipal Assembly has finally elected a presiding member for the 5th assembly. The election took place on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Victory Presbyterian Church in Adentan Fafraha during assembly meeting which was called purposely to elect the presiding member and confirm the president’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive position.

Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey, the assembly member for Otano Electoral Area, received an overwhelming support from his fellow assembly members, securing 18 votes out of 20 total number of assembly members, representing 90%.

Ms. Rachel Fosua Sarpong, the Municipal Coordinating Director, presided over the meeting and handed over the election process to the Electoral Commission headed by the Municipal Electoral officer, Mr. Gerald Roberts. After nominations were opened for 10 minutes, only Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey filed for the presiding member position.

The election was conducted on a YES or NO basis since it was only one candidate, with Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey receiving all 18 YES votes and no one voted NO to disapprove the candidate.

If we recalled, during the inaugural meeting of the Adentan Municipal Assembly held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Resurrection Methodist Church Adentan in the New Legon Electoral Area of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, the newly elected assembly members were unable to elect a presiding member.

The procedures for the election were clearly explained to the newly appointed members, and nominations were opened for a period of 15 minutes. Two candidates were nominated: Hon. Blair Eric Tony, Assembly Member for New Legon Electoral Area, and Hon. Emmanuel Yedu Sackey, Assembly Member for ManMomo Electoral Area.

The election took place, and Hon. Blair Eric Tony obtained 8 votes, representing 40% of the total members, while Hon. Emmanuel Sackey obtained 10 votes, representing 50% of the total members. Neither candidate obtained the required two-thirds majority of the assembly.

According to the electoral guidelines, if no candidate receives the necessary majority, a runoff election should be held between the top two candidates on the same day. If this second round does not produce a winner with the required two-third majority, a final election should be held within 10 days, still involving the same candidates. However, if none of the candidates achieves the two-thirds majority in this third round, nominations will be reopened for different candidates.

Another election was held between the two initial candidates on same day the standing orders prescribed, but the results remained same, with Hon. Tony Blair obtaining 8 votes and Hon. Emmanuel Sackey also obtaining 10 votes. As a result, another election, which was the third one was held on Friday, 15^th February, 2024 at the Assembly Hall but results remained unchanged, hence, the need for fresh nomination to allow for new candidates aside those who previously contested.

This is what led to yesterday’s election that saw Mahamud Ya’Adzagey picking new nomination form and subsequently winning the Presiding members positions. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by her ladyship, Nancy Adade, representing the chief justice.

In his remarks, Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey, who was first elected into the assembly in 2019, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and called for unity among assembly members to work together towards common goals.

EDUCATION BACKGROUND

Hon. Mahamud Ya-Adzagey is a graduate of the University of Ghana Business School where he studied Business Administration and is currently pursuing undergraduate law and a master’s in Public Sector Management at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

Dignitaries in attendance at the election included the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Director, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Greater Accra Regional Electoral Officer, Her ladyship Nancy Adade of Adentan, the MCE nominee Mr. Ebenezer Doku, political party executives, heads of departments and staff of Adentan Municipal Assembly, and members of the general public.

EBENEZER DOKU UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSED AS MCE FOR ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

ADENTAN MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

Hon. Ebenezer Doku has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Adentan Municipal Assembly after receiving 100% endorsement from assembly members on Tuesday, February 20th at the Victory Presbyterian Church, Fafraha in the Gbentanaa Electoral Area of the municipality,

Following the dismissal of the previous MCE in early February, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nominated Hon. Ebenezer Doku to take over the position. The assembly members, per the standing orders were required to vote with a two-thirds majority in favour of the president’s nominee to confirm him as the new MCE.

Immediately after his declaration, Hon. Doku took the oath of office and secrecy which was administered by her ladyship, Nancy Adade on behalf of the Chief Justice.

In his acceptance speech, the new Municipal Chief Executive expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and the assembly members for their support. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity in building a better Adentan, promising an open forum policy and a commitment to working tirelessly.

Ebenezer Doku is a seasoned Administration Practitioner with a wealth of experience in organizational growth. Holding a Master’s in Business Administration (Corporate Governance) and a strong background in Sales & Marketing, Operations, and Customer Service, he is well-versed in business administration across all management levels. Mr. Doku’s leadership skills and corporate governance expertise position him as a valuable asset for the Adentan Municipal Assembly.

Ebenezer Doku’s professional journey includes a prominent role as the Head of Marketing, Corporate & Consumer Clients at Petro Afrique Ltd, where he successfully developed marketing plans, built meaningful customer relationships, and aligned fuel demand with supply. His accomplishments extend to Business Development Coordination at Glico Life Insurance Ltd and a significant tenure as senior Sales and Marketing Executive of the Stallion group (Honda Place and Hyundai Motors).

Education

Mr. Doku’s educational background boasts a Master’s in Business Administration (Corporate Governance), an Executive Certificate in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. His commitment to continuous professional development is evident through workshops and training programs.

Mr. Doku’s engagement in various capacities, including serving as a Member of the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission and President of the Student Representative Council at Koforidua Technical University, highlights his multifaceted leadership capabilities.

Political experience

With a rich political background in the Adentan constituency, Doku has held positions such as Constituency Secretary (2 terms), Assistant Constituency Secretary, and a Polling Station Chairman. He is currently serving as the Regional Research and Elections Officer for NPP Greater Accra, and served as the Regional Rep in Ablekuma Central and Weija – Gbawe constituencies in the recently held Parliamentary Primaries in the Greater Accra Region. He has actively contributed to political committees and played key roles in coordinating campaign activities including serving as the D-Day coordinator, secretary to election committees, among others.

Personal life

Mr. Doku is Married with three children, and is a devoted family man. His strong commitment to his Christian faith is reflected in his personal and professional life.
