PRCC SENSITIZES MARKET WOMEN ON DOMESTIC FIRE PREVENTION

The Public Relation and Complaint Committed (PRCC) of the Adentan Municipal Assembly has held a sensitization program in collaboration with the Ghana Fire Service to educate the market women in Adentan Shopping Mall and Ogbojo market on how to prevent domestic fire outbreaks on Monday 19^th of December, 2022.

This was part of the PRCC’s mandate to sensitize members of the public on activities of the Assembly as well as to interact with the market women and also create a platform for them to ask the fire officers questions on domestic fire prevention during this dry and festive season.

DOII Gifty Agyeiwa Akai-Nettey from the Adentan Municipal station led the education team to sensitize the women. She said there are three components that boost fire burning thus heat, oxygen and fuel. These things according to her are found in our surroundings hence being cautious in handling them will help prevent fire outbreaks in the community.

Mrs.Akai- Nettey further explained the importance of having fire extinguishers and smoke detectors at home as first aid fire detecting and prevention tools and urged the women to make it a point to get some for their various homes.

“Women we buy cloths and do our hair all the time but when fire officers come around and ask us to buy fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to protect our own lives, we feel reluctant. These things are very important as fire first aids to alert and protect us from any threat in regards to domestic fire outbreaks in our homes”, she said.

However, the Chairman of the PRCC of the Assembly Honorable Joseph Odai Boye through his representative Honorable Vivian Bosompem thanked the women for taking time of their busy schedules to be a part of the program and advised them to always make themselves available for such sensitizations for their own benefit.

AdMA ROAD SAFETY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE SENSITIZES TRANSPORT OPERATORS ON ROAD SAFETY.

The Adentan Municipal Assembly Road Safety Management Committee in collaboration with the Public Relations and Complaints education team, Ghana National Roads and Safety Authority (GNRS) and the Ghana Police Service have held a sensitization program to educate transport operators within the Municipality on road safety on Tuesday 20^thDecember,2022 at Ashaley Botwe Lorry Station.

This is an annual event organized to remind transport operators and the public on the importance of being cautious on the road in order to prevent and reduce the occurrences of road accidents.

Mr. Felix Owusu from GNRS who led his team to educate the transport operators. He said many factors might contribute to road accidents but majority of the blame lies on the three persons that use the road thus the driver or rider, pedestrians and the passengers. This he said is due to the fact that most people ignore the road safety signs when using the road which is a bad and a dangerous thing to do and must be stopped.

Mr. Owusu further took the transport operators through the road safety signs and tested their knowledge on what they mean when it is seen on the road.

In addition, DSP Mabel Tetteh from the Adentan Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTU) also urged and cautioned the transport operators to make sure they have their license with them at all times before setting off on the road.

According to her, it is the most important thing every driver must have since it is strongly backed by the law and can put one in trouble when caught by the police without it.

“License is a crucial thing when it comes to driving hence it must be worked on or done by the appropriate authorities thus the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA)”, she said.

The Municipal Information Officer, Nii adotey Saka, a member of Public Relations and Complaints Committee(PRCC) education team explained to the transport operators that, the assembly as the administrative head in the municipality in terms of management of road usage as well as commuters’ protection unit.

ADENTAN MCE URGED RESIDENTS TO HELP PROMOTE AGRICULTURE THROUGH SMALL SPACE FARMING.

The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah said the Adentan Municipal Assembly is embarking on what he termed as “Small Space Farming in order to promote and grow agriculture.

He made this known in an interview with Radio Universe when he was asked about the ways and means the Municipal Assembly is helping to promote agriculture.

This according to him will help utilize the knowledge they have in the field of agriculture since most of the lands in the country are being occupied by roads and buildings.

“You do not need large spaces to do farming. You do not need 100 acres of land to be able to produce some of the things that we are looking at producing in terms of vegetables and other things”, he said.

In addition, Honorable Adumuah made mention that as part of their effort to grow agriculture in the little way possible, measures are being put in place to clear under the high tension along the Motorway since it has quite a number of space for vegetable farming.

He continued to explain that the evidence of their work progress can be seen from both sides of the Motorway through to Ashiaman as individuals are engaging in sweet pepper and onion farming over there.

Honorable Adumuah further stated that the main aim in promoting agriculture is to conscientize people’s mindset from the fact that agriculture is a dirty occupation and to bring to light the fact that one can engage in a neat and decent farming without having deal with cutlass and hoes.

“The thing is that we are trying to shift their mindset for them to realize that if you do not get a white color job, you can still do some agriculture which is still decent and looks nice. Is not cutlass and hoe, you can always upgrade to other levels”, he said.

SUTSURUNAA WINS IN THE FIRST EDITION OF THE ADMBC.

Sutsurunaa (Mambas) has won the trophy for the maiden edition of the Adentan Municipal Basketball Championship at the basketball court in Adentan scoring 53:51 points over Koose (Tusk U-28) on Sunday 11th of December,2022

Sutsurunaa made it to the finals after beating Gbentanaa (Tusk D2) 59:56 in their first game to battle the trophy with Koose after they also clinched a win of 72:57 points against Nii Ashalley and made it to the finals on the first day of the championship.

Koose had a strong start at the beginning of the game and scored 6:5 points after the 1^st quarter but could not maintain the lead in the second quarter of the game bringing Sutsurunaa back in the game with 22:15 points.

After the 3^rd quarter, Sutsurunaa was still in the lead with 16:13 points. Koose tried a come -back in the 4^th quarter by earning 17:10 points against Sutsurunaa but the total score of points could not win them the trophy. This brought Sutsurunaa to the 1^st position and Koose 2^nd.

On the other hand, Gbentanaa (Tusk D2) placed 3^rd after scoring 87:68 points against Nii Ashalley (Echon) and placed them in the 4^th position of the championship. This made Gbentanaa the highest scoring team in the 2days competition.

ADENTAN INAUGURATES NEW ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

The Adentan Municipal Assembly has inaugurated the newly elected Assembly Members, Government Appointees, and Unit Committee Members for the Adentan Assembly at the Resurrection Methodist Church in Adentan.

A total of 12 Elected Assembly members, six Government Appointees, and 60 Unit Committee members were sworn into office by the Magistrate of the Adentan court, Her Worship, Linda Amissah through the administration of the oath of office and secrecy.

The President, Representative the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charles Owiredu congratulated Members and charged them to take advantage of mechanism and other innovative systems developed by the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry to improve upon Internally Generated Funds (IGF). This he said can be achieved if street naming and property addressing is pursued vigorously by working hand-in-hand with the National Digital Property Addressing System and the Ghana Post System.

He reminded them to stick to their core mandate as Assembly Members and work within the remits of the law as provided in the Local Governance Act, (ACT 936) of 2016 with Amendment (ACT 940).

He further mentioned that the District Assembly concept was non-partisan and urged members to remain cautious in the discharge of their duties.

Good governance, he added entails active participation of the citizens in their Assembly to ensure the delivery of quality services, improved infrastructure, and good leadership.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Hon. Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah stressed the need for members to work together and tap from the rich experiences of old Assembly Members to ensure that, together they build a strong Assembly for the people.

He advised members to develop a culture of selflessness, loyalty, and dedication to contribute to the development of the Municipality and Ghana as a whole.

He added that certain decisions that members may be taking may not necessarily be in the interest of all, therefore, a need to called for members to be bold and always consider the interest of the larger group in all circumstances.

He commended previous members for their hard work and stressed on the need for the newly inaugurated to focus on infrastructure development, revenue mobilization, health care, agriculture, and sanitation to improve the lives of people within the Adentan Municipality.

In a related development after the inauguration by the President’s representative, Hon Joseph Odai Boye, the Assembly Member for the Adjiriganor electoral area was elected Presiding Member for the new Assembly with a vote of 15 (Yes) to 4 (Nos) cast by Members at the first meeting of the first session of the fourth of Assembly of the Adentan Municipal Assembly. He was duly sworn into office by Her Worship Linda Amissah, the District Magistrate.

In an interview with the Adentan News, Joseph Odai Boye indicated his readiness to bring all on board to make sure the developmental agenda of the Assembly is fully implemented.

He stated that the current Assembly’s focus will be on strengthening the revenue collection base and making sure that revenue leakages are curbed or minimized.

‘Decentralization is about bringing governance to the doorsteps of the people, therefore, listening to the plea of the people and doing their will is our mandate’ he added.

He finally assured that, by the end of his tenure of office, all projects budgeted for should be implemented.

INTRODUCTION

History

The Adentan Municipality with a projected population of 111,105 is one of the 26 districts in the Greater Accra Region. Adentan is unique for its hosting of the elite population in the nation’s capital and is also noted for its well-planned physical layout, which has attracted many Real Estate Companies such as Trassaco Ghana Ltd, Regimanuel Gray, Edlorm Estate to the municipality. Adentan, which previously had been part of the Tema municipality assumed a full municipal status in 2008 following the passage of LI 1888.

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

The Adentan Municipality lies 10 kilometers to the Northeast of Accra, specifically located on latitude 5’ 43’ North and longitude 0’ 09’ west. The Municipality has a land of about 85 sq. km (33 sq miles). It shares boundaries with Kpone-Katamanso and Ashaiman Municipalities in the East, Madina / LaNkwatanang Municipality in the West, Kpone-Katamanso in the North and Madina / LaNkwatanang and Ledzokuku Krowor Municipalities in the south.
The municipality serves as a nodal point where the main Accra/ Aburi/ Koforidua and Accra/ Dodowa trunk roads pass.

POLITICAL ADMINISTRATION

The Adentan Municipal Assembly has a General Assembly membership of 18 comprising 12 elected members, 6 government appointees, 1 Member of Parliament with the Municipal Chief Executive as the representative of the Head of State at the Municipal level. The General Assembly has 2 committees which are the Executive Committee and Public Relations Complaints Committee (PRCC). It also has 5 statutory Sub-Committees and 6 other non- statutory sub-committees. The five are Finance and Administration (F&A), Works Sub-Committee, Development Planning, Social Services, and Justice and Security Sub-Committees. The non-statutory committees are Education, Agriculture, Environmental and Sanitation, Women and Children, Micro and Small Enterprises Promotion and Revenue Mobilization sub-committees
The municipality has four Zonal Councils namely; Gbentanaa, Nii Ashale, Koose, and Sutsurunaa which are mandated to mobilize revenue, implement policies at the local level, and also mobilize communities to participate in decision making.

AGRICULTURE

Adentan is mainly an urban area with most of the labor force in the Public Sector. With a population of 92, 831, and an estimated farmer population of 1,855, the percentage of the labour force in the agricultural sector in Adentan is estimated to be 1.99%. Currently, Agricultural activities are prevalent in the following electoral areas; Man Momo, New Adenta, Amrahia-Marledzor, Nmai Dzor, Otano, Man Hee, Ogbojo, and Adjiriganor.

TOURISM

In the tourism industry, Adentan is one of the most promising assemblies in the Accra Metropolis. It is home to a number of recreational parks like the Marina Park, Rufus Park, Tesa Lake Resort, etc. It also has very good hospitality facilities such as Ampomaah Hotel, Tenko Plaza, PH Hotel. The University of Ghana and the Amrahia Dairy Farms provide good opportunities for tourists to learn more about endangered animal and plant species.

INDUSTRY

The Municipality has few extractive and processing industries and quite a number of estate development companies and others that produce various commodities and services which contribute to the assembly’s internally generated revenue in terms of business operating licenses and property rate.

AdMA Sanitizes Delicate Territories Inside The Region.

The Adentan Municipal Assembly in accordance with National Public Health Emergency Committee directives carried out disinfection exercise to sanitized key areas in the municipality as part of the efforts to combat COVID 19 Pandemic.

Areas targeted were the Adentan SSNIT shopping mall market, the Ogbojo market, all lorry terminal within the municipality, and other key areas such as the Ogbojo Polyclinic and health Centers and all Police Stations and other key facilities within the municipality.

The exercise was led by Adentan Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Security Agencies like the Adentan Police service, Ghana Military service, NADMO, Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service and supported by Environmental Health Providers such as Ghana Health Service, Adentan Environmental Health Department, National Emergency Assistant, and the Ghana Ambulance among others.

The Municipal Chief Executive Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah advised market women and residents who had their shops open to close them and stay home to stay safe since the chemical for the disinfection is very abusive and can cause harm to their health. He further educated them on safety precautions of protecting themselves against the virus and why the disinfection exercise is important.

The National Disinfectant exercises aimed to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic

President Mandates Upheld In the midst of Out Break OF COVID 19

The Adentan Municipal Assembly in its efforts to contain and curb the spread of the Corona Virus held a special meeting with the headteachers of the Public Schools in the municipality to ascertain the road map for the closure of all schools both private and public.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Headteachers, representatives of the Ghana Health Service, The Adentan Education Council, The Immigration Rep, and The Adentan Police Commander and other officials of the Assembly were present at the meeting.

The Municipal Chief Executive who chaired the meeting urge all members to follow the laid down protocols such as the washing of hands under running water with soap and practicing personal-hygiene by avoiding contact with our face and nose and mouth. The MCE mentioned that the foremost thing as citizens should do is to practice self-preservation and attach importance to the washing of hands with soap under running water more than using alcoholic based sanitizer.

He also added that the Assembly has purchased Veronica buckets to encourage handwashing in Schools and offices and asked the Education office to do its best to educate the various communities on the necessary preventive measures especially in the schools as we await presidential directives for the closure of schools in the municipality. Honorable Nii Noi Adumuah cautioned all and sundry to play their directives role to combat the disease.

The Ghana Health officials sensitized the teachers on the precautions one should take to prevent the spread of the COVID 19 Pandemic in our communities and how we should try and avoid crowded places and practice self-quarantine and frequent washing of hands under running water with soap and social distancing.

The Police Commander, Sup. Peter Adjei of the Adentan Police Division advised the Teachers that, the police are expecting voluntary compliance from citizens and not be complacent of the protocols to increase community infections. He also advised not to spread false information about the Virus to prevent fear and panic in the community.

The Immigration officer of Adentan Mr. Daniel Fiaklu added that the immigration service of Ghana is placing measures in place to secure all entry points in the country. He mentioned that officers have been deployed across all borders, also CCTV cameras are being used to help the tracking system to minimize the spread of the COVID 19.

Mr. Fiaklu mentioned that per the government directive the immigration service has been ordered to stop citizens from countries that have more than 200 cases of COVID 19 from entering the country. he urged that the immigration service would do all in its power to ensure the safety of Adentan and the nation as a whole.
